Social Network Analysis

The aim of this section is to provide an opportunity for the social network analysis of the Hittite local panthea as reflected in the corpus of the cult inventories. To this purpose, the gods attested in the corpus as object of worship (tag category “Deities”) have been interpreted as nodes, and their mutual relationships as edges connecting them. The resulting networks consist of 3,155 and 11,011 edges, depending on whether one considers the deities occurring together within a single textpart or within a single text respectively.

The free open-source software Gephi offers an opportunity to efficiently analyse and manipulate the dataset. In the following Gephi project two working spaces have been integrated, “Deities_Textparts” and “Deities_Texts,” corresponding to the relationships between gods considered under the two options illustrated above.
