Outline.17 of the Festival of Haste (nuntarriyašḫa-)

introductio

Short description

Outline.17 is a small fragment containing the opening lines of the nuntarriyašḫa- festival. The join with EBo 1114 was proposed by Jürgen Lorenz in October 2025. Although the two fragments are stored in different museums, making the physical verification impossible, the join seems relatively secure.

History of publication

The tablet was previously identified as part of KBo 39.63+ (Nakamura M. 2002a: 15, ÜT 1.B; Outline.2 in this edition). However, a palaeographic analysis has demonstrated that it must belong to a different tablet (see Kryszeń A. 2025a: 136f.).

Tablet characteristics

This small piece must originally have belonged to col. i.

Palaeography and handwriting

The tablet is written in the New Script. Its handwriting is demonstrably distinct from that of KBo 39.63+ (Outline.2), to which it was formerly attributed. The differences include the writing of NA, SAR, AR, and É (see the detailed analysis in Kryszeń A. 2025a: 128).

It is possible, however, that IBoT 4.81 originally belonged to the same tablet as Outline.3 (IBoT 4.72 + DBH 46/2.31), with which it shares notable similarities. The evidence, however, remains insufficient to confirm such an (indirect) join.
