CTH 626.Tg38

Festival of Haste (nuntarriyašḫa-). Day 38

introductio

Short description

DAY 38 is the last day of the nuntarriyašḫa- festival attested in more than one outline tablet, although its content is poorly preserved. The surviving evidence suggests that the day involved celebrations conducted by the chief of the palace attendants, who seems to be responsible for the extinguishing of a (ceremonial) fire. Beyond this, the details of the observance remain unclear.

No day-tablets have so far been identified for DAY 38.

History of publication

For an overview of DAY 38 (designated as the 32nd day of the festival), see Nakamura M. 2002a: 139. Both Houwink ten Cate Ph.H.J. 1988a: 180 and Nakamura M. 2002a: 51–53 read the last two words of KUB 55.5+ iv 28′ (Outline.7) as pa-aḫ-ḫur ki-ša-r[i interpreting the passage as referring to the lighting of a fire. However, following the collation of the fragment in the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara, a more plausible reading is pa-aḫ-ḫur ki-iš-t[a-nu-uz-zi, which instead refers to the extinguishing of the fire.
