General information

KBo 53.104 is a small fragment with fourteen complete signs. It was tentatively assigned to CTH 533 (lunar omens) by J. Miller in KBo 53. It does indeed contain the word ‘ḫila-’, which is used in Hittite for TÙR/tarbaṣu to refer to lunar halos. The phrase EN É-TI aki, ‘the owner of the house will die’, is the only phrase that suggests that this is an omen fragment, as the beginnings of the lines are not preserved. This phrase is, however, very atypical for celestial omens (whose house are we talking about?), but very common for terrestrial omens of the type found in šumma ālu, as is the mention of doors. Unfortunately, the omens are too fragmentary to find a parallel.
