Letter from Ḫimuili to the king with extispicy report

introductio

Short description

Fragment of the beginning of a letter from Ḫimuili to the king. The content is very fragmentary, and seems to refer to military activities and extispicy oracles.

Texts

Literature from the Konkordanz

  • A. Hagenbuchner, THeth 16, 1989: 67f. (Nr. 44)

History of publication

Handcopy: H.G. Güterbock (KBo 18, Güterbock H.G. 1971a).

Edition: Hagenbuchner A. 1989a, 67-68.

Tablet characteristics

The shape of this tablet, quadrangular with ‘bulged’ edges, closely reminds of contemporary letters from Tapikka-Maşat Höyük, and since the sender is an official attested in other tablets from this provincial center, it is possible that this letter was sent to Ḫattuša from here.

Palaeography and handwriting

MS (mh.); diagnostic signs: IT(?), SAR, TAR.

Historical context

For the identification of Ḫimuili with the palace official frequently mentioned in the Middle Hittite period letters from Tapikka see Klinger J. 1995b, 91, Klengel H. 1999a, 128, Martino S. de 2005d, 300, Marizza M. 2007a, 116.
