Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

Collated (March 2020).

The fragment contains a fragmentary description of the cult image of the Sun goddess of Arinna (lines 1′-2′). Noteworthy is the heigth of the statuette, namely at least four UṬU-spans (Güterbock 1983: 210 fn. 53, Hazenbos 1990: 520).

Palaeography: Note the sign variant used for UDU (line 7′), with four verticals.

5′: Perhaps [ … GUR-ZI]-IP, cf. KBo 70.109+ i 39′.
