Cult inventory (CTH 526.33) Textual tradition
Basis of the edition The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary. Commentary Previous editions: Hazenbos 2003: 73-74. Noteworthy in this fragment are the occurrence of the rare verb lappina(e)- (obv. 3′), the formula on “bringing the gods” applied to a cult image (obv. 4′), and the explicit reference to the participation of the “town” in a seasonal festival (rev. 1-3, with a procession to a mountain). obv. 3′: The verb lappina(e)- is attested only here and in another cult inventory, Bo 5230 12′. In both fragments, the form occurs shortly after the formula on the setting of lamps. CHD L-N 45 puts forward a possible interpretation “to light(?), to insert a wick (in a lamp)(?).” obv. 4′-5′: This passage seems to configure a situation in which a preexisting cult image is “brought” to the king, who decides that a new one has to be made.
