Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary. The transliteration of the unpublished fragment Bo 3758 is included by kind permission of Savaş Özkan Savaş. The transliteration of the unpublished fragment Bo 5285 is included by kind permission of Esma Reyhan. The transliteration of the unpublished fragment Bo 6278 is included by kind permission of Oğuz Soysal. Oğuz Soysal also generously provided a transliteration, produced in the frame of his DFG-funded project “Unpublished Bogazkoy-Fragments: Edition and Research,” which has been used in preparing the present edition as acknowledged in the commentary.

Commentary

Previous editions: Haas 1970: 300-302 (KUB 27.68), del Monte 1978: 181-88 (KUB 42.100), Hazenbos 2003: 14-24 (KBo 26.181, KUB 42.100), Lamante and Lorenz 2015: 246-66 (without Bo 5285), Cammarosano 2018: 335-57 (without Bo 5285 and Bo 6278).

Collated (KBo 26.181, KUB 27.68, KUB 42.100; September 2013).

The latest edition in Cammarosano 2018: 335-57 can be now augmented thanks to the join with Bo 6278 and Bo 5285, which allow a substantial improvement in the reconstruction of §§12, 15 and 16. Siegelová 2019: 581 with fn. 18 proposes to consider Bo 3295 a further (indirect?) join to this tablet.

A1+5 obv. ii 7′/1′-24′/18′: The transliteration of ms. A5 is the work of Oğuz Soysal, who kindly allowed to include the unpublished fragment in the present edition. For the restoration proposed in line ii 12′/6′, he compares the passage below at line A1 iv 33′.

A1 iv 7′, 19′, 20′: The reading ZA.SIG₄ instead of ZA.ḪUM has been kindly pointed out by James Burgin and Charles Steitler, see already sub HZL no. 310 n.
