Festival of Haste (nuntarriyašḫa-). Day 6

introductio

Kurzbeschreibung

Version 4 includes three fragments, each of which is parallel to texts with preserved colophons. The manuscripts describe the great assembly in the ḫalentu- complex, including certain preparatory steps and a substantial portion of the god-drinking rite. The sequence of the toasted deities and several specific details in these fragments correspond closely to securely identified texts, making their attribution to DAY 6 of the nuntarriyašḫa- festival well justified.

History of publication

The texts were edited in Nakamura M. 2002a: 208–212, who assigned them to the same version as IBoT 4.54+ (ms. C of Version 2 in the present edition).

Tablet characteristics

All tablets appear originally to have been three-column tablets, with IBoT 2.101 (ms. C) likely having the widest columns in the group (over 8 cm).

Palaeography and handwriting

Ms. A (KUB 59.9) and ms. D (KBo 45.41) are written in the New Script. The script of Ms. B (KUB 44.9) and ms. C (IBoT 2.101) is labeled Late New, but there seem to be no reason for such a dating – note, e.g., DA with a broken horizontal, KI and KU without the additional vertical, and the old form of LI.
