Festival of Haste (nuntarriyašḫa-). Day 28

introductio

Kurzbeschreibung

DAY 28 of the nuntarriyašḫa-festival included two events: the celebrations of the Queen of the Storehouse conducted by the supervisor of the shepherds, and the festival for Telipinu organized by the aḫišala- men.

DAY 28 marks the beginning of a series of days in the nuntarriyašḫa-festival (lasting at least until DAY 35) that focus on various professionals celebrating their patron deities.

No day-tablets have so far been identified for DAY 28.

History of publication

In Nakamura M. 2002a: 125, DAY 28 is designated as day 24. At the time, Nakamura was not yet able to take into account Outline.11, which clarifies that the ‘queen’ mentioned in the text refers to the goddess, rather than to the Hittite queen. This explains his different interpretation of the events.

On the basis of his reconstruction of KUB 25.27 ii 9′, Nakamura cautiously proposed KUB 55.52 as a possible candidate for a day-tablet. Since the reading in KUB 25.27 is uncertain, however, the text was not included in the present edition.

Intertextuality

As already observed by Nakamura M. 2002a: 123f., the events of DAY 28 likely correspond to those attested in KUB 25.27 ii 8′–12′. Note, however, that the latter text mentions EN É x[, which does not seem refer to the information in the outline tablets.
