Kurzbeschreibung |
CTH 532.4 consists of a single fragment of what was likely a tablet of Hittite lunar eclipse omens (A: KBo 34.119). No word for moon or eclipse is preserved, but the topics of the apodoses are found in other lunar eclipse omens such as CTH 532.3, CTH 532.5, and CTH 532.8. Unlike CTH 532.3, the entries do not follow specific days but rather entire months, as do the lunar eclipse omens in CTH 532.5.

General information |
CTH 532.4 is a collection of Hittite monthly omens, in all likelihood lunar eclipse omens. The tablet probably belonged to the text CTH 532.5, but there is no textual overlap, and a word for ‘eclipse’ is missing. The text could theoretically be about other lunar phenomena. The text type is first found in Mari (ARM 26.248) and later in iqqur īpuš §§67-80. The apodoses concern rain, flooding, and the harvest.
