CTH 573.101

Fragment with combined oracles: augury, KIN, extispicy

introductio

Kurzbeschreibung

Based on the readable formulary portions of the text, this poorly preserved tablet contains paragraphs with oracle inquiries of different typologies, including augury, KIN oracles, and extispicy. Thus, it should be catalogued among the texts of CTH 580. The previous attribution to CTH 573 also depends on some erroneous readings in the transliteration published in DBH 43 (Taş I. 2017a).

Tablet characteristics

Fragment of the right edge of a tablet preserving small portions of writing on both sides and along the edge itself.

Palaeography and handwriting

A palaeographic analysis of this fragment as LNS (sjh.), as in the HPM Konkordanz, is dubious. There are no evident diagnostic signs for LNS, and although the fragment could be more generally catalogued as NS, such determination remains tentative as well, due to the limited extent of the text and the fact that the few potential diagnostic signs do not provide a sufficient basis (e.g. DA, ḪAR, are not unmistakably ‘late’ forms).
