Kurzbeschreibung |
|
Fragment of a tablet with bird oracles. The reference to the city name Zitḫara (rev. 12´, 14´) possibly indicates the location where these observations were carried out, or at least some of them. The geographic reference, alongside other content and non-standard forms, supports an early date of the text, along with its palaeography.
The content of the final line of text, written within an empty paragraph on the reverse – possibly added after the main text – cannot be determined due to its difficult reading.

Tablet characteristics |
|
Fragment of the lower-right corner of a one-column tablet, inscribed also over the lower edge. The reverse contains only about seven lines of text in one paragraph, with most of the remaining space left blank. Notably, one additional line was inscribed in this blank araa, written in a much smaller script.

Palaeography and handwriting |

MS (mh.); diagnostic signs: E(?), ḪAR, IT, LI, TAR.

Linguistic characteristics |
|
A few notable forms include the infrequent abbreviation taru- with case ending (obv. 6´, instead of tar-li₁₂-), GUN- with case endings (rev. 14´, instead of GUN-li₁₂- + case ending), and the form SIG₅ in reference to the ‘favorable side’ without phonetic complementation (abl. -az/-za; rev. 9´ and perhaps obv. 5´, broken). Additionally, note the omission of the verb ú-et in the formulary sentences (rev. 9´ and probably also obv. 5´, rev. 14´), somewhat frequent in the bird oracle corpus.

Historical context |

Zitḫara is also mentioned in the better preserved oracle KBo 24.131 (CTH 573.4), authored by an augur Zapalli.
