Bird oracle fragment

introductio

Kurzbeschreibung

This text includes a fragmentary oracle response by the augur Awauwa (obv. II 4´; the name must be partially restored; see note 2 to the text). Other sections of this document do not appear to be oracle reports, although there are references to oracles: one passage refers to the observation of birds in the town of Ḫilara(-), a toponym not attested elsewhere (obv. II 5´; §3). The same section also refers to an illness, and includes some sentences with reported speech; the context is too fragmentary for a reconstruction. Another section contains a statement by a ‘priest’ (UM-MA SANGA, rev. IV 7´), and refers to ‘unfavorable’ (signs? results?, rev. IV 5´). The remaining paragraphs are too fragmentary to determine their content.
