Bird oracle fragment mentioning Tanizila

introductio

Short description

This small fragment with few partial lines from a bird oracle report is of some interest for the mention of the toponym Tanizila, appearing in this and three other oracle reports. The toponym was probably located in north-central Anatolia since the other oracles deal with military campaigns against the Kaška tribes (discussed in Mouton A. 2012 “Tanizila” RlA 13-5/6, 442, with references; but with mistaken reference to this text therein KBo 41.〈1〉26).

Texts

Manuscript AKBo 41.1262171/cBk. E

History of publication

Sakuma Y. 2009b, II, 459 (only oracular portion, ll. 4´-9´).

Autography: H. Otten – C. Rüster (KBo 41).

Palaeography and handwriting

Although this fragment is catalogued as NS (jh.) on HPM, it might be earlier. Provided that the size of the fragment does not allow reliable paleographic dating, all the diagnostic signs do not show any clear late forms (especially ḪAR, but also AL, TA, IT).
