The nature of the šurit(a)- object remains unclear. Currently, there are eight attestations, some of which are fragmentary. Scholars have proposed that it might be a ball of wool, a coil of yarn, or a type of textile such as a braid or mat (for the attestations and interpretations see CHD Š, 650–651 s.v. (SÍG)šurit(a)-). Certain contexts, along with the determinative SÍG, which often precedes the term, support this interpretation. This also aligns well with the likely meaning of the term šuri-, which describes a feature of the exta and is probably connected to šurit(a)-. Unfortunately, the precise nature of this feature also remains elusive. Yet, contextual evidence suggests that it might denote a filary or capillary structure, akin to the Akkadian qû that also has the meaning “thread, string, net or web” (for a discussion of the term šuri- see Schuol M. 1994a, 287–288; for the meaning of qû see CAD Q, 285–281, s.v. qû).
The term puram(m)im(m)a- is attested in several extispicy reports. Its meaning remains uncertain, but the contexts suggest that, as a Hittite adjective or a Luwian participle, it refers to a specific type of extispicy.
